What connects

This little pot of yellow balls
and my bird feeder?
Answer: the next door neighbour. Who has a pellet gun and got bored with trying to hit a tin can on his wall. He decided my feeders or maybe even the birds were much more exciting.
You can see one hiding in the seed. The feeder was fgull of holes and I have had to get a new one. Which was a shame because it was really easy to take apart to clean.

Here is a little chap we saw marching up the wall the other day.
By the time I got outside he was hiding under the wall ledge and the next day he had gone.
I don't do Hallow e'en but here are a few witches

Most of them have gone to good homes so I hope they are out and about today.

A new resident.

Last Friday I went shopping and although I was home on the early bus I still managed to miss the postman. He had put a card through the door to say there was a parcel for John. Rather than walk to the delivery office on Saturday we arranged for it to be redelivered  on Monday. However when it arrived on Monday it was addressed to me and I realised straight away what it would be. Yes my Dartmoor hare from Soggiebottom.  Thank you Michele he is lovely.

I had to give him my sincere apologies because he spent an unnecessary weekend in a box. Luckily he could not have got too hungry because the packet of dreamies included for Tia were still intact. Unless of course he had been packed with a bag of carrots as well.
He had settle in enough by Thursday to join Grace for her birthday photograph.
The bean arch has been taken down and the ground dug over
We have parsnip growing

and cabbages including this rather fine curly kale.

On the sewing front I have  a pile of things that are at the finishing stage.

A Sad day

I heard today via Sally and then an email in my inbox from Katie that Cathey has passed away. Details can be found here.

There are many things that will always remind me of Cathey. Pumpkins of course, bunnies, snowmen and every Easter I will raise a Cadbury's cream egg in her memory. My thoughts are her her husband, Junior and the rest of her family at this sad time.

Cathey you will never be forgotten

Catching up.

August and September are always busy months, what with the annual holiday and other days out. A couple of weeks ago we went to Yarndale. It was very crowded and I ony bought one ball of angora yarn and a pattern. I did not feel I could buy loads of expensive yarn that might sit in the stash for ages. But the alpacas were lovely
and the organisers had gone to a lot of trouble to decorate everywhere
I hope they run it again next year.
I have been trying to catch up with long term projects that are not quite UFOs
This has just needed backing for over a year now but is finally finished. Just before Christmas last year I started a winter hanging  (scroll down to end.) I carefully put it away for the festivities and then forgot where. I found it this week and so I am determined it will be hanging up this year.

I am full of good intentions at the moment like persevering with my guitar.  I bought it years ago and never got to grips with it. I had it strung left handed but the tutor books were too hard to follow because they were right handed. It was hard to tune too but over the summer discovered electronic tuning devices.  So now I have a guitar that is in tune. My son in law restrung it back to right handed and although it is not as easy to hold I can follow the tutor book and I have mastered a chord. I say mastered, I might not be able to do it tomorrow.

I thought blogger had spell check but it doesn't seem to be here now.

A couple of weeks ago it was John's birthday and Jaco took him for a walk in the park

We had very little rain in September (27mm) In the first two days of October we had 60mm. It has been quite warm the last few days but is due to turn colder on Thursday.
