Sun at last

We have had  a sunny day. I can't remember when the last one was. In celebration I hung washing on the line and it all but dried. Just needed finishing off on the radiator. Despite the sun however it dropped to -2C over night and we woke to a sharp frost this morning.

Last night we had the last of the parsnips and very tasty they were too. I shall look forward to a new crop at the end of the year.

I have finished my second piece of weaving. The warp is some thin yellow cotton yarn I bought from Texere several years ago. The weft is some yarn again from the stash. I think it is called Piccaso and probably Sirdar. it is a black curly yarn with splashes of colour.  I am not yet adept enough to add little bits of colour to my weft. I am finishing the end without a fringe as I am hoping to use this fabric to make an item
The end, end has been stitched but the beginning needs to be sorted out and is still tied in the knots that fixed it to the loom. The first few rows are quite loose but I hope I can sort this out.
I am quite pleased with it. I am looking forward to the next piece.

What has happened here?

The snow came went came went and now is back again. The top photograph was earlier in the week.
And this was this morning
everything is completely covered but rain is expected later on this evening and the temperature is set to rise.
We have had plenty of birds the sterling found the window feeder and the wren spent quite  awhile looking in the bushes. It was  just luck that I happened to be around.
I have a new computer. I decided to go for a mac mini rather than a new imac.

We had trouble with the monitor
and since this photograph was taken it has been replaced. I have finally getting to grips with Mountain Lion I was several operating systems behind and a lot has changed not necessarily for the better.
My first piece of weaving is finished

I am more than pleased with it.

I have began a new piece which is progressing nicely

Thank you to every one who comments, sorry if I haven not replied personally to you.

Bits and pieces

Last Friday evening the weather took a turn for the worst and this arrived over night
The thrush enjoyed a feast of meal worms

and kept his feet out of the snow for a while.
it was much wetter snow then the first lot and by Sunday it had almost gone when the rain set in.

We have had mixed weather all week with high winds on Thursday. It was a traumatic time for the robin. After I took this photo he sheltered deep in a leafless bush until the wind died down for a few minutes.

Along time ago my daughter stitched the LizzieKate months of the year series.  Christmas two years ago I brought back with me the finished pieces to make into a wall hanging. Over that summer I could not decide what fabric to use and so they got stuck in the to do pile and forgotten about. Then last summer I decided it was time I trimmed them all to the same size and tacked a stitching line around them all.  Then what with one thing and another they were left again. So I made it my mission to finish them after Christmas.  I finally decided on plain pink fabric as it did not detract  from the designs but was not too bland. This is the result.
I was pleased with it.

My second finish of the year is this

I bought the yarn and pattern at Texere. It was knitted using two strands (merlot and rust)on 7.5mm needles
and the lining was a remnant from Boyes.

Here is the almost finished item

I have decided to  make a loop to fasten it with a button. I am very pleased with the result.
