it's warming up...

... next week! But not yet. It has been freezing this week and the temperature rarely rose above zero.

On Tuesday the sun came out for a bit
My friend Magic popped in for some food. It is nearly a year since his owner died.  He seems to be well looked after but knows where he can get a bit extra to eat.

Snow

We started off with just a little sprinkle

the temperature has not gone above -1c for days.
Although we have only had teeny flakes there is now quite a bit and enough to wear my wellies when I feed the birds

A  female blackbird
and sparrows in the bush

The female blackbird feasting on dried meal-worms. I didn't photograph the robin he was too quick.

Meanwhile Tia stole the last of my breakfast!
Next time time the birds can wait.

weaving

I am pleased with my weaving so far.   As you can see it is not perfect.  The tension is a bit loose especially at the edges. That will come with practise.  There are a couple of places where there is more than one warp thread. I am not worried though because it has shown me a different effect.
I can change colour and it is interesting to see how they go together.

I have completed quite  a bit. I have two books which I treated my self to. This
one came today in the post. This one I bought at Texere when we went after Christmas.

I plan to do more practising before deciding what to make.

Happy New Year..

... and let us hope it is going to be a drier one. Although if the first few days are anything to go by it is not very likely.

Way back at the end of summer I made a purchase. I wanted to buy something special with the money I had earnt doing private 1:1 tuition. I decided to buy a rigid heddle loom. I spent time waxing it over a few weeks then due to lack of time and one thing and another it did not get assembled.  By this time it was nearly Christmas and we decided to wait until after the holiday. Last week John put it together and help me with the warping. There was a very good video clip to watch which made it much easier.

Tia had to have a look
but she got bored with it quite quickly.

ready to start weaving.

But Tia decided she needed a warm by the fire.   (to be continued)
