Autumn walk, Allotment...

October two years ago we visited here The weather was so different from last time when it was misty, cold and frosty. Tuesday was mild and misty.

The colours were outstanding, I just love this time of year. There are lots more pictures
here

Of course we didn't go alone

Moriarty and Trophy Mouse (from Skye) and Biddle came too.

After the walk to Highcastle crags we walked across Heptonstall Moor to the village of Heptonstall.

It was all rather boggy and I nearly slipped over twice and was covered with mud which went through my trousers to my leg it took a good scrubbing to get rid of it all.

The allotment is progressing still

I forgot to mention that the piece of knitting I sent off in September became part of this

and is possibly the "N" by the stripey legs. It was great to be part of such a fun project.

have a go here

Not much creativity this week despite it being half term Wednesday was wasted with a bad headache.
But I have done quite a bit of my cross stitch swap.
Thanks for dropping by

Grace...

...has had a birthday. We were never quite sure when her birthday, she was adopted several years ago from a very nice bear maker from Sheffield. We first met Grace at the bear fair held twice a year at Pudsey. She had been commissioned as a Christmas gift by a man for his girl friend. But they had broken up and he did not buy her. So there she was in March looking for a new home. We thought that her would have been born by the previous October so her birthday is now 17 October. She came dressed in a navy blue dress but it was obvious that she was not going to be content with just one dress. She probably now as more stuff than me. Some bought in sales and some made by her dressmaker.
(Guess who that is).

here she is with her party guests

She was allowed to choose something for her birthday and decided to raid the stash. She wants a skirt and jumper

Biddle and Gardener Bunny have been busy at the allotment trying out the new fork and spade

I think John has done the bulk of the work though

He was very excited because he has been visited by a robin who sat on the newly dug earth watching and waiting for worms.
We have put some food in the apple tree for other birds that might want to visit

I am enjoying the tutoring I am doing three afternoons a week. And its bringing in a bit of money. It does mean I get other things done in the morning before I go. The children are keen to work and I hope they do benefit from it.

My secrets are coming along nicely and I have some ideas for other stuff I want to make. Its half term next week although I don't deserve as as I am not working very much. John has three days off and so we will probably go out one of the days. We might re visit
here

We alter the clocks on Sunday and fall back into Autumn. Winter really will be just around the corner.

Thank you for stopping by and for the comments last time.

Bits and pieces

Elli has a jumper. She had borrowed one of Biddle's but wanted a girlie one

Grace had her eye on this yarn but I only had one ball so there would not have been enough. All other activity on the creative front has again been secretive. But I am pleased with what I have done.

A couple of weekends ago it was very windy and this was the result

One side was already a bit cracked so the wind finished it off and we will have to invest in a new one for next spring.

Work is progressing at the allotment

Biddle and Gardener SockBunny came to check

Gardener was tired after the big adventure and had to check out a new chair to rest in

She thought the wooden one a bit too dusty and has taken up residence in the comfy one.

Here is an update on the tomatoes that grew this summer. They have ripened at last and we had some for lunch. They tasted so much nicer than supermarket bought ones.

I have had a busy week so far. One of my agencies offered me some one 2 one tutoring, two hours a day for three days a week and not too long a bus journey. Although it will not bring in very much money it is better than nothing. And I am really enjoying which is just as important.

This weekend we are off to see Bellowhead. We saw them last year and they were brilliant.

This time next week it will be nearly half-term and the clocks will go back an hour.

Thanks for stopping by

progressing

The allotment has a different look about it already. John went at the weekend and cleared a patch of high weeds and some of the rubbish.
I will use the apple tree as a focal point over the weeks so we can compare

In this first photograph the tree is just visible

He donned the leather gloves as there is an awful lot of glass among the foliage, the remnants of a greenhouse. He is going to concentrate on one patch and try and clear some of the roots. Not surprisingly he ached on Monday morning. My contribution. I photographed the progress and Biddle and Gardener Bunny came to help

Sewing wise I have finished a Christmas gift, the elephant jumper is almost done. I worked on Monday so it still needs a collar. I have also made some fabric containers I bought one at a sale many years ago and thought I knew what to d but did find a blog with a tutorial to confirm it. More of these at a later date.

I have kitted up my Christmas ornament swap. And think I have chosen an owl for another swap.

Its raining today but I was surprised how warm it was too. The plants needed it and so did the water butt.

Thanks for coming by and for the comments
